HHUMC’s Music Ministry

“I will sing of loving kindness and justice; to you, O Lord, I will make music.” -- Psalm 101:1

Making music for worship pleases God and brings joy to our hearts!  Making music, in general, brings people together for fellowship! Singing God’s praises, solo and with one another, sets our verbal prayers to music. We sing our “joyful noise” for His glory, honor, and praise. All things considered, Christian music restores our soul!

At Helotes Hills UMC, we are blessed with God-given, talented musicians who truly enjoy praising God with each other. Dedicated folks in our Teen/Adult Choir, Children’s Choir, Hand Bells, and Praise Team join together and offer God our “musical” prayers, presence, gifts, and service. We search for anthems, hymns, and/or instrumental “Songs of Praise” not only to enhance the Sunday message and worship, but to magnify our spiritual connections with God.

So, how can you become involved in our music ministry?  If you are interested in playing hand bells, please contact Richard Flores and e-mail him at Rick-N-Kris@satx.rr.com.  If you have children who like to sing and/or play musical instruments, please contact Sharon Herning and e-mail her at sangel1935@yahoo.com. If you are interested in “making a joyful noise” with our teen/adult choir, please contact Karen Sheldon and e-mail her at sheldonkjs@airmail.net. Or, you may call the church office (210-695-3761) for more info.

Teen/Adult Choir

“Sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth. Sing to the Lord, bless His name;
Proclaim good tidings of His salvation from day to day.” -- Psalm 96:1-2

Choir Director, Karen Sheldon, is always happy to talk with anyone about our choral program and how you can become involved.  Come, join the fun, and sing with us!

Our Helotes Hills UMC’s Teen/Adult Choir sings at least twice a month at 8:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Sunday services.  Rehearsals are Wednesday nights at 7:00 p.m.  Choir summer hiatus is usually in June/July; special music (solos, duets, small groups) is provided during the summer.

In addition to Sunday worship, we promote/perform at least one annual fundraiser.  In Sept. 2010, thirty choir members sponsored “A Night on Broadway” musical production and served a lasagna dinner!  We also perform annual Christmas Cantatas.  Our original 2010 Christmas Cantata featured the talents of thirty-eight choir members plus three, talented actors.

So, whether or not you read music, if you want to sing with us, please contact Karen by leaving a message via the church office (695-3761) or by e-mail (sheldonkjs@airmail.net).  See you Wednesday night at rehearsal!

“Praise the Lord!  For it is good to sing praises to our God!” -- Psalm 147: 1
